If you had an infinite supply of water and a 5 litre and 3 litre jars.
How would you measure exactly 4 litre without extra jar?

Simple, first fill the 3 ltr jar and pour the whole content into the 5 ltr jar, then again fill the 3 ltr jar and fill the balance 5 ltr jar. 1 ltr will remain in the 3 ltr jar. Throw all the water from the 5 ltr jar and put the remaining 1 ltr water from the 3 ltr jar into the 5 ltr jar. Then fill 3 ltr of water from the 3 ltr jar into the 5 ltr jar and there you go… you get 4 ltr of water in the 5 ltr jar.
There are many ways to skin a cat; fill the 5l jar and from it fill the 3l jar, you now have 2liters remaining in the 5l jar. Empty the 3l jar and put the 2liters left in the 5l jar in it. Fill the 5l jar again and pour one liter into the 3l jar to fill it (it already has 2liters). You now have 4 liters in the 5l jar.
